Have you noticed that when you make a commitment to live a joyful life it sometimes seems like the universe tries to get in the way and sabotage the very thing you are wanting?

Life can get the best of you. It happens to us all. I wanted to take a minute to remind you that moments focused in negativity are very powerful and POTENTIALLY VERY HEALING moments.

In each moment you have an opportunity to stay committed to your intention or to react emotionally in the moment. When things don’t go the way you want, or expect, you’ll naturally hold your breath. Why do we do this?

It’s a natural response to protect yourself from pain, disappointment, and fear. When you hold your breath it’s your way of subtly saying, “Warning! Stop!” The issue is the more you hold your breath, the more pain, judgment, and fear creeps into your mind. Which in turn creates anxiety, depression, and often disempowerment.

When you notice this negativity happening, don’t judge it. You’ve recognized it, and that’s a good thing! When you notice things it means you get to make a choice. If you are wanting to focus on positive, loving thoughts and intentions — don’t beat yourself up when you notice that Negative Nelly is kicking your butt.

Instead, take a breath. Put a smile on your face and say to Negative Nelly — good try! You aren’t going to steal my joy for another moment. Take another deep breath and look around where you are standing. Find three positive things in that moment, and then take a deep breath with each of those things.

Guess what?!

You just stepped off the negative train to recommit to your positive intention and commitment. WOOHOO! Congratulations!

Each moment is a milestone in our healing process. Every moment matters.
