I can’t believe January is over!!! This month always flies for me. After a few weeks of downtime in December I’m always ready to get rolling, and apparently, the rest of the world is too because I have been BUSY catching up with people, traveling and making great stuff happen! I do my best brainstorming when I give myself a chance to slow down, so my mind was racing by the end of the year!
I have big goals for this year and I’m not the kind of person to sit around and watch time go by. When I say I’m going to do something, I do!
So yes, the first month of the year is behind us and we’re now rolling into the second and shortest month of the year. If you’ve been slacking because of post-holiday blues, it’s time to pick yourself up off the couch and get going. March will be here in just a few weeks.
I’m not talking about writing goals—most peeps I know set goals at the end of December, or at the very latest the first of January. But just in case, if your goals are still lurking around in your head somewhere, write them down!
Right now I’m referring to ACHIEVING those goals. There’s a big difference—but they ARE joined at the hip. If you want to achieve goals, you have to set them, and setting goals has little value unless you work to achieve them. Right?
Are you happy with what you’ve got? Great. If not, here are three of my best tips to help you churn the crank on what you want to happen for you this year:
Tip #1 Set Motivating Goals
If you set goals you don’t care about, you probably won’t put much effort into achieving them. But setting goals for meaningful things will energize you. Having something you want will encourage you to make it happen.
It’s different for everybody but strong motivators include more money, freedom, and of course “stuff” you want. I’m usually pretty motivated by where I want to grow in my business (and yes, probably some new jewelry too) so I set goals that will bring me the resources I need to have what I want.
What do you want? Be clear and specific.
Tip #2 Set Achievable Goals
I don’t necessarily mean EASY, but I do mean POSSIBLE. Are you working toward earning a six or seven figure income? Of course, it’s doable! How do I know? I did it after just six months and then two years in my business. The point I’m making is I didn’t expect it to happen in two months.
Achieving an income goal at any level means asking yourself the right questions before you set your goal. Is your goal appropriate to your budget and personal investment of time and money? Is it relevant to your education level? Do you need more training?
You can have what you want! Achieving means breaking things down into smaller related goals and working toward the Granddaddy goals.
Tip #3 Create Your Action Plan
So, before you get started … plunging into action-taking without first creating a well-thought-out plan or business plan makes little sense. One thing I emphasize with all of my coaching clients is:
ALWAYS make a plan. @hayleyhobson (Click to Tweet!)
Change it if you need to, but always have a plan before you begin anything. Like I said, I do my best thinking when I slow down. And sometimes slowing down means actually going for a run. It’s in the midst of those times I don’t have to think about what I’m doing (getting from A to B) that I actually do my best thinking. Does that make sense?
But if you’re not sure of where to begin, Google Business Plans. There are lots of ideas out there. Basically, a plan consists of three things:
1) What You Want
2) What You Need to Help You Have it
3) How You’re Going to Get There
The concept is super-simple. You just need a plan and then Tip #3 will take you the rest of the way there.
Tip #4 Follow Through
Once you know where you are going and why the next step is to take action. Your plan will help you coordinate your steps and identify benchmarks along the way so you know you’re going in the right direction.
If the road you’re on ends up being the long way around, turn and find another road. JUST DON’T STOP MOVING. Commit to follow through no matter what! There are often times I don’t feel like doing what I’m doing.
But I stay consistent, keeping my eye on the prize.
I’m not saying it will be easy. The going may get tough. Keep going.
If you work with a coach, be coachable. If not, think about getting one, as it’s often hard to hold yourself accountable.
These four tips provide a basic foundation for achieving your goals. By the end of the month, year or whatever timeframe you set, you can have what you want. Go forward and make it happen! I know you can do it if you really want to.
