So you were brave enough to ask for something, now what?
Today’s video is about how to know if you’re ready to receive what you asked for. Last week in our Blazing Q&A call Natalie asked, “I don’t really have a problem asking, but sometimes I feel blocked in receiving. Is it possible to ask for something but not be ready to fully receive it?”
I loved her question & it turned into a great conversation about what happens if you make the ask to get what you want but you may not be ready to receive.
This Q is spot on. Even if you ask for something, if you’re not ready to fully receive it because you don’t feel worthy or a belief from your past conflicts with your desire, i.e. “Everything has to be a struggle” or “You have to work hard to get what you deserve,” you’ll feel conflicted. That’s a signal to look deeper at your beliefs because they may be blocking you from great opportunities.
Here’s what I share in the video:
- Check your gut for how you feel
Whether you’re asking for what you want, taking a risk, or really doing anything – you will *always* get some sort of a feeling. Tap into that feeling and trust that your body and intuition are telling you something; it’s the best place to start when you’re trying to understand how you feel about receiving. When you receive something, check in with your gut and see how it feels. - Experiment
Every time you ask for something, treat it like an experiment to see how it makes you feel & to see what you’re able to receive. Just like trusting your gut. Do you feel heavy or doubtful, “Why do I deserve this?” Or do you feel open and ready to receive what’s being given
to you? - Check your beliefs and stories
If you grew up in an environment where everything had to be a struggle or you had to work really hard for things, you’re conditioned to think life just IS that way. But it’s not. You will have to work hard in life, but some parts *can* come naturally, without being a huge struggle. Trust in that. - Don’t deny the gifts coming your way
Be grateful for and open to what’s being given to you. Stop questioning whether you do/don’t deserve it. If you constantly doubt what comes your way, the universe will take it as a sign to say “Eff off!” sooner or later (I made that up, I don’t know all the laws of the universe! But I do genuinely believe this.) A more useful way to receive is to simply be grateful then USE that gift to do something productive and helpful. Segue into… - DO SOMETHING with what you’ve been given
It’s not enough to sit back with what you’re given, use it and turn it into something good. Remind the universe that you’re grateful, and that you’re going to take the next step, to make your gifts count.
Having things come to you naturally and knowing how to receive them does not make you an opportunistic person. It makes you smart. @ishitagupta (Click to Tweet!)
If you’re struggling with asking or receiving (or both!), email me and tell me what’s up. I’ll try to help you as best I can. And remember, if you have people in your life who could use help asking and receiving, share this video with them. We ALL need help, especially when we don’t feel deserving of things we ask for. Remind the people you love it doesn’t have to be hard all the time.
