Guess who came to dinner last week? Oprah Winfrey.
When I was at Oprah’s estate in Montecito to film my Super Soul Sunday show, I told Oprah that I wanted to introduce her to some other people who lived in the Santa Barbara area.
She gave me her phone number and said, “Great. Invite me to dinner.”
Some time went by, and I had not yet done it, and then in October, she invited me, along with 300 others to the Sunday Gospel Brunch she put on to launch her newest book, The Wisdom of Sundays, which is a beautiful collection of the best aha moments of inspiration and soul-expanding insight from her three-time Emmy Award-winning Super Soul Sunday television show interviews.
At brunch, Oprah reminded me that I had not yet put together that dinner. So last week, I did. Oprah, my wife Inga and I, Dawa Tarchin Phillips (a local Buddhist meditation teacher) and his wife Aranza, and Barnet Bain (the director of Milton’s Secret, the film version of Eckhart Tolle’s children’s book) and his wife Sandi Stuart.
We had an amazing evening discussing a number of topics, including Oprah’s Leadership Academy for Girls, which she opened near Johannesburg, South Africa. I offered to gift all the teachers and the counselors in the school our Train the Trainer Online program, and Oprah accepted the offer, and we are also discussing my going to South Africa with her to conduct a live training for the teachers.
Here is a picture we took at the end of the evening.
I also want to encourage you to purchase a copy of The Wisdom of Sundays. It is a beautiful, cherishable, deeply-affecting book.
Organized into ten chapters―each one representing a powerful step in Oprah’s own spiritual journey and introduced with an intimate, personal essay by Oprah herself.
The book features selections from the most meaningful conversations between Oprah and some of today’s most-admired thought-leaders, including myself, Tony Robbins, Arianna Huffington, Shonda Rhimes, Eckhart Tolle, Thich Nhat Hahn, Marianne Williamson and Wayne Dyer, Cheryl Strayed, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Elizabeth Lesser.
Illustrated with beautiful photographs, many taken on her Montecito estate, The Wisdom of Sundays is a beautiful book, a great read, and will make a great gift book for the coming holidays.
