You have a golden heart, and you want to help the world. I get it. Where do you start when the world is so messed up and you are feeling messed up because of it?
Go where your pain is.
Pick your issue. The one that really hurts.
You KNOW how to use your voice and your money. Social media makes everyone a broadcaster. Annoy the sh-t out of people with how concerned you are. Don’t let the pushback push you over. The future is listening. So we have to speak very clearly about what is ideal. But with more than our voices and money…
We need to really engage our Souls.
We say we believe in energy and meditation and positive thinking—we need to harness it. How many times do we say to someone, “I’m sending Love” Really send it. Take four minutes—20 if you can—to sit in silence and very specifically send Love, and healing, Light, to the person, people, places, or situation in need. Fill the in-between moments of your day by pouring your consciousness where it’s needed.
Meditate on the move.
Dedicate your subway ride to easing the pain of people with mental illness.
Say this Buddhist invocation over and over again:
May all beings everywhere be happy and free. May the thoughts, words, and actions of my life today contribute to freedom and happiness for all.
Before you sleep, choose one person in your life and wish everything good for them. Burn a candle during breakfast for cancer fighters. Go for a walk, and instead of thinking about how to grow your business, go ten blocks and do a stream of consciousness to the planet:
May the oceans be purified, may the trees be revered, may the policymakers protect the atmosphere. Bless the soil, bless the sharks, bless the sidewalks, bless the garbage collectors, bless the bees. Heal us from pesticides, heal us from toxins, heal the nuclear meltdown sites. Love to the over-consumers, Love to the seed-keepers…
Or create the simplest invocation.
Speak or just think words that you direct at someone, some place, or the entire planet. Peace. Understanding. Equality. Green. More beauty. Healthcare. Agreements. Fresh air. Loving parents. Connection. Recognition. Music. Kindness…
Before you leave a place, drop Light into the space with something like this:
“May all who enter here be blessed with their heart’s desire.” Grocery stores, gas stations, public restrooms, classrooms, your neighbour’s front porch—all space is opportunity for a blessing.
In your next yoga class, instead of rewinding your own pain from the day, devote every asana to grieving parents. Dance in your kitchen for the first responders, a dance of thanks. Dance out despair for the people who live in cultures where ecstatic movement is forbidden.
Right now…let’s bless all the babies born today. “May everyone see you and Love what they see.”
When you walk down the street, psychically tell each person, “You can do it.”
Money… YES… give it! Your voice, your vote… use it. Your Spirit… apply it everywhere.
When the situation is overwhelming, let your Soul take over.
