When I was a kid, I had a lot of trouble making decisions. I loved learning and, the more I discovered about the world, the more confused I became.

Because with every new idea we discover comes a whole new realm of possibility.

The more possibilities we have, the more difficult it is to make a choice and to narrow down our focus.

Thirty-seven different, delicious things on the menu, but you have to choose one.

When I turned eighteen I became a vegetarian and life got a whole lot simpler.

I became happier. All of a sudden when I would walk into a restaurant I only had three or four things to choose from and life felt a whole lot simpler.

And that’s part of the confusion I think so many people face these days when it comes to finding their purpose.

Since today there are infinite possibilities of things to do or to become, it literally becomes impossible to choose!

I love people, I love to party, so maybe my purpose is to be an events planner?

Or then again, I love nature, I enjoy photography, so perhaps my purpose is to be a landscape photographer?

But finding your purpose isn’t about what you do, it’s about who you are.

That’s why in my last video I said,

Finding your purpose doesn’t mean “finding your purpose.” It means living in alignment with the essence of who you really are.”

But there’s one thing that gets in your way from living in alignment with that essence, and I talk about it in today’s video:

So the key to finding your purpose is to stop looking for it. Instead, focus on getting outside of your “story” and allowing your “purpose” to become the natural expression of who “you” really are.

The way to do that is simple (for more details, watch the video):

  1. Practice noticing the conversation that’s always going on in your mind. When you hear that “little voice” inside you comment on something or trying to draw you into conversation, learn to notice it as an observer would notice something happening in front of them, but without getting drawn into what that voice is saying.
  2. Realize that you are not that voice inside your head, but rather that you are the awareness that’s able to hear it.
  3. Realize that your mind always tries to make sense of the world around you by creating stories, and see if you can notice the “story” you’ve created about who you “are” or who you are trying to become.
  4. Then try to experience yourself and your unlimited power in the simplicity of this moment, without tuning into the mind’s commentary. Feel how much is really possible for you in the silence of that moment and see if you can feel your purpose starting to pulse through you.

Give this exercise a try and leave a comment below about what if feels like when you do.
