For the longest time, I thought that being strong meant that I was committed to being unaffected by things that were happening in my life. People would always tell me how strong I was because I seemed unaffected by things. They would often tell me, “Wow, I wish I could be as strong as you”.

I would feel weak and fragile when I was disappointed, afraid, angry, or worried. I would feel as if I had been defeated if I had feelings about something going on in my life. Strong used to mean that I could do everything by myself. I would often feel tremendous pressure and stress because of my huge to-do list. People would offer to help me and I would decline the offer because I thought it was easier for me to just do everything by myself.

As I began to heal, I realized that strength was the ability to be authentic and real with how things were affecting me.

Strength was the feeling that would happen inside when I would allow myself to cry if I was sad, acknowledge when I was disappointed, and breathe when I was angry. Strength was being able to ask for help when I needed it and trust that I would be supported. Strength was the feeling that would happen inside when I had the courage to express what was in my Heart and on my mind. Strength was having the courage to be able to ask for what I wanted in my life and risk being rejected and humiliated. The more vulnerable I became with myself… the stronger, more confident, and capable I began to feel inside.

Healing is about keeping this simple and real. @intuitionheals (Click to Tweet!)

When we are honest with ourselves, energy flows in our bodies in a more harmonious way. We are responding to everything and everyone around us. When we acknowledge how things are affecting us, we become empowered. When we become empowered, our minds will be at peace and our bodies can heal.

May we have the courage to honor ourselves that we may enjoy these incredible lives that we have been given to love and to live.
