Torri, an 18-year old girl from Ohio, was born with a right arm that wasn’t fully developed. Despite her physical limitations, Torri never held back from going after what she wanted. She played basketball and soccer and was beloved by all. In the fall of 2013, her friends started a Twitter campaign called #HandforTorri to try to get her a bionic arm.

One of Torri’s personal dreams was to hug her dad, which she couldn’t do completely without aid. It was around that time that their tweets caught our attention.

Duncan, Jonnie, Dave and I started The Buried Life in a garage in 2006 with the goal of accomplishing a list of 100 things to do before you die and helping a stranger each time we got one done.(83 out of 100 so far!)

Torri’s friends were saying things like, “Everyone please make her dream come true! She’s been through so much & I would love nothing more than to see her get a hand! #HandForTorri,” and “I don’t personally know Torri but I know some of her story and she should come nothing short of what she wants and deserves #HandForTorri.”

The show of love and faith reminded us of why we do The Buried Life. We decided to set to work to help Torri’s friends make her dream come true and with the generous support of Hanger Clinics (who donated the arm!) and Invisible Children (who helped organize and film everything) we did it!
